I wanted my Momma, but not more than I wanted my Momma not to feel what I was feeling. I stayed home. When Momma and I talked that day in Memphis a year later, so much had changed. COVID had been credited with more than 2. The world had paused. And Momma had moved. He had signed off on the initial loan for the laundry center and offered to help secure a second loan to convert the laundry center into a rental duplex. Trading quarters for dollars. Momma and Daddy took him up on the offer. In the five years between and , Momma and Daddy converted the laundry center into a two-unit duplex, then expanded that two-unit duplex into a six-unit apartment complex, then sold the apartment complex and used the money to help them build a house — and the next part of their life together — in a town about forty miles south of where the laundry center stood.

We moved into the house in We had a shell of a house. Concrete floors with no rug. Sheetrock with no paint. No wallpaper. Bathrooms with no plumbing. Had a stove in there because I had to cook. I haaaad to cook. We filled it up until we emptied out. In , my brother graduated high school and decided to go to college in Tacoma, Washington, more than two thousand miles away. A couple of years later, I graduated high school and decided to go to college in St. Paul, Minnesota, more than a thousand miles away. The year after that, Daddy died of liver cancer. Her world became her world again. The stuff too. I thought the idea was mine. She knew it was hers. Maybe it was neither of ours. Maybe the idea came home one day by itself and just waited for Momma to find it. Eventually I could hear her again.

Momma said it was her favorite. There was something Momma called a hutch and another heavy piece of furniture with a knob and a hinged top that we both agreed to call a record player. Momma and Daddy had picked up other pieces of stuff too, all in pairs and sets in their early years together. A round kitchen table with a black marble top. A love seat. A sectional. Later on, Momma replaced the stuff my brother and I had taken from the house with her own touches, her own taste, using the imagination that Daddy had tried to take from her. She made everything how she wanted. She filled the rooms with bright colors and Bobby Womack, closets with wigs and purses, Saturday nights with champagne and Barry White. Just wait and see what you will have to go through presently.

The excess of courage is condemned as foolhardiness. A man is foolhardy who, for some trifling object, runs into great danger. When a sailor jumps out of an express train to recover his hat, or smokes his pipes over a packet of explosives instead of being praised for his carelessness of danger, he is rightly blamed for foolishly risking his life. Essay 2. What is the first thing that comes to mind when the word bravery is said? For most people, a war hero or a superhero comes into their minds. Probably every language has a word for bravery, but there is only one true meaning.

Bravery is not only what people do, but also how they do it. Bravery may be shown in different ways: a person may jump from a plane or walk on fire to show. Then again, sometimes bravery is something that a person has inside him or her and is never shown as an action at all. For thousands of years, people have used words that describe the concept of bravery. The history, or etymology, of the English word bravery, is as follows. The word originated in Latin as barbarous. The Romans who spoke Latin were warriors so it is logical they would have a word that talked about their courageous actions. The Vulgar Latin, which was spoken Latin, was transformed by Middle French in the Middle Ages as well as by Middle English. This form of English. was what was spoken in the 12th to 15th century.

From Middle English evolved the English we speak today and with it, the word bravery.

Home — Essay Samples — Life — Bravery — Bravery: Making the Impossible Possible. By definition, bravery is the quality or state of having or showing mental or physical strength to face danger, fear, or difficulty. Whether humans do it consciously or not, bravery is shown on a day to day basis. Aware of it or not, humans very often achieve the impossible with bravery and courage. To begin, To Kill A Mockingbird, is one of several well-written novels that displays the importance of bravery and how the unthinkable is attainable with it. In the novel, Atticus, a beloved protagonist, shows not only several examples of bravery but numerous instances of knowledge and awareness of bravery.

In the visuals, I decided to use a red, appealing background, as red is the colour that represents bravery. There are several references to the novel, such as the actual cover for the novel, the author of the novel, the reference to the courthouse in the novel, and the picture of the film that was brought to life in The image of the gavel perfectly fits the thesis, as in court, we are often forced to take bravery as it is often an eerie situation. I also incorporated a photo of the Chinese symbol of bravery, as the Chinese take symbolism and bravery very seriously. The symbol represents bravery, courage, audacity, boldness, as well as risk-taking.

I thought it would be a perfect fit, as it links with the thesis perfectly. In the visuals, I decided to include the colour grey, as not only does it represent the impossible, but it also represents achieving the impossible, something that is possible with bravery. I included three images straight from the article, that they used for their examples. I also involved a lion, an animal that is known to represent bravery, courage and strength in many cultures, so I thought it would be a perfect fit. The poem is a freestyle poem, that displays that you can do things you never thought you could do if you have bravery. The visual shows the colours of purple and pink, very delicate colours that show strength and bravery.

Besides the poem, there is an image of an eagle, an animal considered the king of the skies, for its representation of perspicacity, courage, and strength in the times of Ancient Rome. There is also an image of a dragon, which in the Medieval Era, represented bravery and courage, as it was thought impossible to defeat them, but the knights did the opposite with bravery. Speaking from personal experience, one of the ways that I expressed my bravery was at a festival at Mel Lastman Square that my mother helped organize last summer. While I was selling ice cream, I saw from a glance that a man fell backwards from a table holding a liquor bottle in his hand. As I completed the Red Cross CPR program a few months prior, I called over an EMS on-site and we both attended to him checking for vital signs such as breathing, consciousness, and circulation.

While calling , I tended to him while the EMS went to grab a defibrillator. Although this may not be a major act of bravery, it is certainly one that I remember and will be held near my heart for many years to come. In conclusion, the unthinkable is doable, with a beautiful thing known as bravery. Remember: This is just a sample from a fellow student. Starting from 3 hours delivery.
