The influence of parents, the general mood in the family, and the support of relatives and friends allow a person to feel more confident, set goals and achieve them easily. The influence of society, friends and teachers is also equally important. Professionally important qualities, embedded or not embedded in childhood, are not a verdict for the person. A person can develop and adjust them for himself. The most important thing that a successful person, regardless of career level and profession, must have is self-confidence and self-esteem. This is the basis of any sphere of activity and the result of self-development. When taking up a task, it is necessary to be able to soberly assess capabilities and possible risks.


There are several methods to help develop the professional qualities of the individual. First of all, it is self-analysis that makes it clear which professional qualities are sufficiently formed and which need to be improved or nurtured. Having already determined what is missing, individuals can plan professional qualities development. As my teaching experience has developed so has my capacity for reflection. I am now more confident and aware of the benefit of feedback to seek the views of learners, peers, mentors etc. This creates a greater spectrum of reflection rather than simply my own to learn from. Gibbs reflective cycle has become a natural part of my teaching and reflective practice. This is especially beneficial with one day courses I teach again and again.


In this situation it is easy to become complacent and lazy and stick with same session plan. Actively reflecting with feedback from others enables me find methods of improving the session. This can be beneficial to all if the programme is tailored to every learning need including images, audio and hands on tasks and by having a person on hand to ask questions of and explain points although this is often time consuming and costly as staff have to travel to a central location to join a training session Due to the low costs involved and ease of adapting or amending training templates and resources, e-learning is now a favoured approach to training staff within the NHS. Whilst this is good for people who are visual learners and are office based within LCFT buildings, it can be very difficult for staff with no IT connectivity or only one PC between 10 people on a ward for example.
